A central venous catheter (CVC), also known as a central line or central venous line, is a long, flexible tube inserted into a large vein, typically in the neck, chest, arm, or groin, with the tip placed in a central vein like the superior or inferior vena cava or right atrium. CVCs are used to administer medications, fluids, blood products, and nutrition, and can also facilitate blood draws.
